Summary/Objective:

The Lead Post Office Clerk assists in overseeing daily operations by providing guidance and support to post office clerks during their shifts. This role ensures smooth workflow, adherence to postal regulations, and high-quality customer service. The Shift Lead helps resolve customer issues, monitors inventory, and assists in training new clerks while also performing standard postal duties. They serve as the go-to person for operational questions and task delegation in the absence of higher management.

Essential Functions:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clerks during assigned shifts, providing guidance and
  • assistance as needed.
  • Support daily operations by ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and in compliance with
  • postal regulations.
  • Assist customers with mailing, shipping, and other postal service inquiries.
  • Explain postage rates, mailing guidelines, and available postal services to customers.
  • Handle escalated customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail, including sorting, bundling, and preparing packages for
  • delivery.
  • Monitor stock levels of postal supplies and ensure availability.
  • Assist with cash handling, register balancing, and financial transactions.
  • Train and mentor new clerks on operational procedures and customer service expectations.
  • Ensure safety and security protocols are followed to protect mail and postal assets.
  • Maintain accurate records of mail volumes, transactions, and inventory.
  • Collaborate with postal carriers and vendors to support efficient mail distribution.
  • Assist with administrative duties such as processing forms and generating reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

  • At least 1 year of experience in a postal, retail, or customer service environment preferred.
  • Prior experience in a lead or senior clerk role is a plus.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to handle escalations effectively.
  • Knowledge of postal regulations, mailing processes, and postal equipment.
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting.
  • Cash handling experience preferred.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Licenses or Certificates

Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
